  14. As a NewTek customer and potential Flyer Buyer I've got a suggestion for 
  15. NewTek and would like some input. Please reply via email and I will 
  16. summarize for the group and send it to NewTek also.

  18. Their are many Amiga users like me who are buying a second or third 
  19. platform right now. For reasons I'll not go into, I'm buying a PowerMac 
  20. now which I will hopefully be able to upgrade to a Prep/PCI Mac 
  21. later. Down the road, I hope to afford an Alpha too.

  23. I've been looking into networking the Toaster/Flyer to the PowerMac. It 
  24. is possible through TCP/IP to do it. The overhead involved in converting 
  25. and sending Flyer Clips to the Mac for post-processing is, obviously, 
  26. prohibitive. HD and Ethernet space for thousands of uncompressed frames 
  27. does not exist.

  29. I would like to see NewTek revive the ToasterLink. For those of you 
  30. unfamiliar with it, the ToasterLink put a Switcher screen on the Mac and 
  31. allowed control of basic functions like framegrabbing. It provided a SCSI 
  32. link and transparent conversion of Framestores to PICT files.

  34. What is needed now is a Flyer-SCSI connection to multiple platforms (read 
  35. WinNT, MacOS and SGI) that passes Flyer Clips as high resolution QT and 
  36. AVI movies. It should also allow Windows, SGI and (hopefully) Mac 
  37. Lightwave to read and write to the Flyer.

  41. I know that NewTek has stated that they're not in the networking business 
  42. (anymore), but I think them foolish to leave this up to a 3rd party that 
  43. might do a less than complete solution. It's a great way to push more 
  44. Flyers into the high-end markets, and high-end buyers like complete 
  45. solutions that integrate seamlessly with their current environment.
